Many events are held on the beach throughout the year, from festivals to sporting events. New Year's Eve is celebrated on the beach, including a fireworks display.
Many events are held in the heritage-listed Bondi Pavilion Community Centre, which includes a theater and exhibition gallery and an outdoor amphitheater. There is also a Marine Discovery Centre that educates visitors about aquatic life native to Australia. An outdoor ice skating rink is constructed during the winter months.
Bondi Beach was used for beach volleyball competitions during the 2000 Summer Olympics.
The street running along the beach, Campbell Parade, is lined with a range of surf and fashion shops, outdoor cafes, and bars. Hall Street and Curlewis Street, both perpendicular and ending at the beach, have many boutique and designer clothing stores as well as art galleries.
The beach is protected during the summer months by underwater shark netting.
