Gear Spotlight: Saris Freedom SuperClamp Bike Hitch Rack

Saris has a new tray style hitch rack that is half the weight of similar types of bike racks. The Freedom SuperClamp is available in both 2- and 4-bike versions. The 2-bike rack weighs only 32 lbs, with a weight capacity of 60 pounds per bike. The 4-bike version is 63 lbs, and has allowance of 60 pounds per bike for the trays closest to the vehicle, and 35 pounds per bike for the outermost trays. Saris modified their existing Freedom rack by adding adjustable clamps that eliminate the need for any frame contact. The clamps secure over the wheels so well, you won't even need to use the wheel straps. But they are provided just in case. No more need for straight bar adapters for full suspension mountain bikes, kids' bikes, or bikes with low sloping top tubes.The clamps slide along the single mounting bar as necessary to fit longer or shorter bikes. Wide wheel trays give ample room for all types of tires, with a narrow channel for road bike tires. For fat bike aficionados, a wider tray option can be purchased $45. The integrated locking cable can be stashed inside the rack when not in use, and the rack also includes a locking hitch pin. Fits both 1 1/4" and 2" hitch receivers with a center-position aluminum adapter, a more secure design than the side-position plastic adapters used by other manufacturers.
Mounting and dismounting a bike takes seconds. The buttons and releases for opening or adjusting the rack are bright yellow - intuitive and easy to find like other Saris rack systems. The Freedom SuperClamp will get you on the road/trail quicker and spend less time messing with your bike rack.
The 2-bike rack does not tilt, but the 4-bike version will tilt down to allow access to the back of the vehicle.
