Gear Spotlight: Selk'Bag Patagon wearable sleeping bag

Posted on August 22, 2013 by Jamie Brady   comments

Xploritall attended the Outdoor Retailer Summer Show to check out outdoor, lifestyle, and travel products to be released in the upcoming Fall and Spring seasons. We'll be covering some of the more interesting things we saw at the show. Once we receive products to demo and get a chance to test them out, we'll be reviewing them as well.

A few companies are looking at the limitations of mobility with sleeping bags, and adding features to allow a user to leave their tent and perform tasks without needing to leave their sleeping bag. The idea is practical; heating up the inside of the bag with your body heat takes time on a cold night. And any time you have to open or leave the bag, you're allowing that heat to release. Mostly, companies have focused on designs allowing for quick tasks - to throw another log on the fire, to grab something you forgot, etc. But Selk'bag is taking it even further and seeking to provide greater mobility with products that blur the line between sleeping bag and clothing.

Selk'bag launched in 2007 with their "Original" bag. Since then, they've also released a "Lite" version and a Kid's version. For Spring 2014, they are debuting the "Patagon" bag, a 4 season bag with the additional feature of removable feet so you can wear your boots. There will be three temperature ratings available (T.Comfort 6°C/44°F, T.Limit 2°C/35°F, and T.Extreme -13°C/9°F), and clothing-like sizes (M-XL), plus a range of color options. The shell is Nylon rip-stop, the lining is nylon, and the filling is synthetic.

You can bet that Bigfoot sightings will be on the rise!
