Former NFL Star Ray Lewis Abandons Mt. Kilimanjaro Attempt
Posted on July 5, 2013 by
Mount Kilimanjaro proved to be too much, even for the fierce former linebacker that gave quarterbacks and running backs nightmares for the better part of two decades. Former Baltimore Ravens star Ray Lewis was forced to abandon his attempt to climb Mount Kilimanjara in Tanzania, Africa, the largest freestanding mountain in the world. Lewis had planned to ascend the mountain as part of an effort to raise money for clean water projects in Africa.
A foot ailment prevented Lewis from completing the climb; but just as he did with his former football teammates for 17 years, he urged the other members of the team to continue on without him. Other team members include Doug Pitt, the brother of actor Brad Pitt and the Goodwill Ambassador to Tanzania, former NFL player Tommie Harris, celebrity fitness expert Basheerah Ahman, and actor/comedian Kyle Massey.
