Dolphin Asks Divers For Help Removing Hook

Posted on January 26, 2013 by Jamie Brady   comments

Dolphins truly are a majestic species. They never cease to amaze us with their intelligence and gentle natures. A diving group in Hawaii was recently filming a night dive of Manta Rays feeding on plankton when a lone Bottlenose dolphin began hanging around. It became obvious that it was having some difficulty swimming naturally. As it swam past Keller Laros, one of the divers, he noticed a fishing line and hook was stuck in one of its fins, restricting its movement. Keller attempted to remove the line as the dolphin patiently allowed him. Going up once for air, the dolphin returned and Keller was finally able to at least remove the line, allowing the dolphin to regain some movement. Truly a touching moment and simultaneously makes me a little ashamed for the actions of our own species.
