Time Lapse Airport Landings

Posted on December 3, 2012 by Jamie Brady   comments

We always hear that before and after Thanksgiving are among the busiest traveling days of the year, but this video is ridiculous. It's not real, though. Well, it IS real, but just not at real time. Filmmaker and Photographer Cy Kuckenbaker filmed planes landing at San Diego International Airport between 10:30am and 3pm on Friday, November 23, 2012. He weaved the planes together into one compressed video around 26 seconds long. To get the shot, he had to scout around for a location that would allow him to film the planes with a pure blue sky behind them, which gave him a blue-screen effect. The bridge was added from another time lapse shot at another location. Pretty cool. It makes you realize how orchestrated airport operations really are, with planes taking off, taxiing, and landing within seconds of each other, and usually on the same runway.
